The Knowledge

The biostation has been left, and so has a naive college student. I've done my best to take careful note of what I was able to learn over the past three months so that if I am ever in need of some guidance I can simply return to this place on paper, or in my head. It feels like an intellectual adolescence has begun growing fibrous, hairy connections in my brain.

I came into the summer dreadfully missing one close friend but gained two more. However far we stray, I think KBS was slightly more than a mere summer camp. The relationships were nearly fully developed from the start, like our bodies were naked, turned inside out and tattooed with everything we wanted to say. But aren't all comrades in temporary enclosures chumy during their stay, and don't they also wear tattoos? If only so, their company was needed, accepted and appreciated.

In the end I guess I made more than two friends--our whole lot's been invited to stay and visit awhile in Brazil with Marcia and Camilla, such is the culture. But, for now I'm glad to be home with my floppy-stringed acoustic guitar and a new book for identifying insects in my backyard.
