One 30 minute kayak trip and I saw three things I've never seen before.1. The Northern Flicker
- Hanging out with starlings
- Eating off of the ground, then flying to a few tree trunks once it saw me
- They've got a lot going on. Mixed stripes and polka-dots make them fashionably senseless, yet attractive.
2. SOME kind of gar- About 1.5 ft long
- Swimming slow in the clear border between light and dark shallows
- More likely to have been a lake trout
3. The Red-Eared Slider- Very large, sunning on a boat lift
- Eyed me suspiciously and vanished when more people stepped onto the dock.
